The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tiaguinho Favoretto in the 5th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benedito Santos prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Noite's Benedito Santos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eduardo Veloso in the 6th minute of play. In the 8th minute, Humberto Chaves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 9 minutes into the match, Jeriba SC's Percival Brasil broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 14th minute of the match, Tiaguinho Favoretto got a very nice opportunity to score, but Benedito Santos was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Flávio Teles stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Murilo Costa's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. Benedito Santos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eduardo Veloso, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. If Eduardo Veloso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tomás Prata scored 1-1 in the 39th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Flávio Teles, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 42nd minute of the match Humberto Chaves shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Flávio Teles showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Jeriba SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eduardo Veloso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience was convinced that Tiaguinho Favoretto's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benedito Santos was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. Benedito Santos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eduardo Veloso, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. 71 minutes into the game, Jeriba SC's Tiaguinho Favoretto nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. He was immediately shown a red card. The supporters of The Noite booed when Jeriba SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Deivid Ferreira didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Tiaguinho Favoretto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
