The referee ignored Flamengo FC's protests and gave Reginaldo Lira a yellow card for diving instead. In the 14th minute, Reginaldo Lira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Reginaldo Lira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gabriel Quaresma was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. 22 minutes into the match, Denílson da Silva dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Cláudio Chaves, 2-0. In the 26th minute, Leonardo Zonta left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Flamengo FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. Contendas EC's Gabriel Quaresma played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reginaldo Lira in the 33rd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Reginaldo Lira in the 34th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gabriel Quaresma prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Emílio de Castro came up free with the goalie in the 35th minute, the Flamengo FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Emílio de Castro couldn't finish the play. Emílio Pereira kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Gabriel Quaresma didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Mazinho Zonta went, in the 42nd minute, to the upper right corner, 2-2 was the resulting score. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Reginaldo Lira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Leonardo Zonta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Contendas EC's Gabriel Quaresma proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Contendas EC from getting a goal against them. Cláudio Chaves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Vítor Abreu in the 61st minute of the match. Flamengo FC's Reginaldo Lira got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Claudinei Loyola kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. The supporters of Contendas EC booed when Flamengo FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. João Meirelles didn't get a good kick on the ball. Flamengo FC's Cláudio Chaves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by David Fantini in the 71st minute of play. In the 73rd minute of the match Emílio Pereira shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Cláudio Chaves showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 74th minute the ball was on its way in behind Contendas EC's goalkeeper Gabriel Quaresma, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Reginaldo Lira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Gabriel Quaresma tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gabriel Quaresma stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Reginaldo Lira's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. 81 minutes into the match, Contendas EC's goal looked a bit too open when Mazinho Zonta came free, but Gabriel Quaresma reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gabriel Quaresma made an important save on a dangerous shot by Reginaldo Lira in the 85th minute. A hard shot 93 in the game by Reginaldo Lira from a close distance when the talented Gabriel Quaresma managed to make a qualified save. Contendas EC's players were relieved. Reginaldo Lira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
