The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Hélder Negri had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 3rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hélder Negri was extremely unlucky when he, in the 5th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. With a couple of smart ball manuevers João Vítor Abreu in the 8th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Celso Leão saved FLAMENGO from getting behind. In the 10th minute, Denílson da Silva ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Celso Leão was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. In the 13th minute the ball was on its way in behind Contendas EC's goalkeeper Gabriel Quaresma, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Celso Leão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Denílson da Silva, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. In the 17th minute, Hélder Negri reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Gabriel Quaresma. The goal made the score 1-1. After 21 minutes, Claudinei Loyola mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Contendas EC and the FLAMENGO players grew even worse after the yellow card. Claudinei Loyola kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. The FLAMENGO fans' excitement grew in the 28th match minute when FLAMENGO's Hélder Negri looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Celso Leão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Vítor Abreu, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Gabriel Quaresma showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emerson Medeiros in the 37th minute of the match. Gabriel Quaresma made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kléberson de Castro in the 40th minute of play. 41 minutes into the match, Contendas EC's Denílson da Silva sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Celso Leão narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Hélder Negri fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gabriel Quaresma having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when João Vítor Abreu stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Hélder Negri blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gabriel Quaresma having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hélder Negri in the 64th minute of play forced Contendas EC's goalkeeper Gabriel Quaresma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A hard shot by Emílio Pereira from long distance, 65 minutes into the match, got Celso Leão's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Denílson da Silva came free with the goalkeeper in the 68th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Celso Leão could save by the left post. 70 minutes into the match, FLAMENGO's Hélder Negri sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gabriel Quaresma narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Kléberson de Castro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When the match had gone on for 77 minutes, João Vítor Abreu took a quick shot and it went in 2-2 without a chance for Celso Leão to make any attempt to save it. After a rather tough play, FLAMENGO's Kléberson de Castro got a free kick in the 80th minute. If Hélder Negri had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gabriel Quaresma took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emerson Medeiros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. During the 84th minute of the match Claudinei Loyola completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Claudinei Loyola a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Hélder Negri received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Gabriel Quaresma tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hélder Negri in the 96th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gabriel Quaresma prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
