The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. A collision led to Galos getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Alessandro Paraibano hit a great ball. Chiquinho Pernambucano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Váldson Tróia struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Caetano Branco made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Chiquinho Pernambucano managed to get in a good position for a shot. Protestantes's supporters rose to their feet, but Chiquinho Pernambucano was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Roger Carioca breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 54 minutes of play Galos's Olívio Valadares was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 55th minute, Olívio Valadares hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Váldson Tróia could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 64th minute of the match, but Roger Carioca made a huge save. If Chiquinho Pernambucano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 79th minute, Galos's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Chiquinho Pernambucano fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. In the 84th minute of the match, Váldson Tróia got a very nice opportunity to score, but Roger Carioca was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post.
