The Gurinhem EC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that João Carlos de Amorim should have stopped the shot. Tiaguinho Eger blasted a shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without João Carlos de Amorim having to make a save. João Carlos de Amorim made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tiaguinho Eger in the 37th minute of play. In the 41st minute the ball was on its way in behind Gurinhem EC's goalkeeper João Carlos de Amorim, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Pium's Cido Borges played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bruno Terra in the 44th minute of play. Cido Borges made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alessandro Alagoano in the 45th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 47th minute, Tiaguinho Eger managed to get in a good position for a shot. Pium's supporters rose to their feet, but Tiaguinho Eger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. João Carlos de Amorim breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half Pium were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bruno Terra to make the kick off. When Doriva Zanette came up free with the goalie in the 66th minute, the Pium fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Doriva Zanette couldn't finish the play. In the 67th minute, Edmílson Diniz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
