The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jânio Nóbrega made an important save on a dangerous shot by Elias da Silva in the 7th minute. In the 8th minute, Olívio Pereira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to Brascol getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Eriberto Rosa hit a great ball. Elias da Silva could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Jânio Nóbrega made a huge save. 16 minutes into the game, Olívio Pereira threw the ball into play from the sideline. Varadouro's Artur Viana quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Olívio Pereira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Olívio Pereira managed to get in a good position for a shot. Brascol's supporters rose to their feet, but Olívio Pereira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Varadouro's goalkeeper Luís Eduardo Tepedino, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Bernardinho Diniz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Eduardo Tepedino having to interfere. Brascol's attack was well implemented in the 33rd minute, but when Jacinto Queirós was about to shoot he didn't get a good hit on the ball and it hit the crossbar and flew over. Goal Kick. After a defensive mix-up in Varadouro's zone, Olívio Pereira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. With 37 minutes on the clock, Guto Tande commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 36th minute of the game. One of Brascol:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Varadouro:s goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Luís Eduardo Tepedino made an important save on a dangerous shot by Olívio Pereira in the 52nd minute. After 56 minutes, César Costa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Varadouro and the Brascol players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Varadouro's César Costa got a free kick in the 56th minute. In the 58th match minute, Brascol was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valdemar Vander to maneuver through the defense. Nilmar Xavier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A sloppy throw-in by Artur Viana in the 66th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Brascol's Oswaldo Nascimento. Varadouro's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nilton Xavier was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. After having played for 96 minutes, Ricardo Esteves managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Brascol's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ricardo Esteves was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
