The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Salta FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Juninho Vasconcelos was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Juninho Vasconcelos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Luizão Veiga tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Ricardo Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Clóvis Proença sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpected shot in the 43rd minute by Clóvis Proença got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Germano Melo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 75th minute, Clóvis Proença ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Dênis Neiva was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. In the 80th minute the ball was on its way in behind Salta FC's goalkeeper Luizão Veiga, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Juninho Vasconcelos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Clóvis Proença in the 85th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dênis Neiva prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 87 minutes into the match, Chelsea's goal looked a bit too open when Clóvis Proença came free, but Dênis Neiva reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Salta FC's Cesinha Amorim got his second yellow card of the match in the 89th minute. The referee ordered Cesinha Amorim off the ground. In the 90th minute, Cesinha Amorim hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Chelsea's Dênis Neiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Clóvis Proença in the 94th minute of play. When the referee ended the match the Salta FC players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
