André Luiz de Azevedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Nando Simões tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Botucatu SC's zone, André Luiz de Azevedo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. In the 9thth minute of the game Vítor Esteves who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Barcelona's Jairo do Nascimento was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Barcelona's Jairo do Nascimento played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joélson Fonseca in the 11th minute of play. After 11 minutes, Vitinho do Nascimento mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Barcelona and the Botucatu SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 11 played minutes Barcelona got a freekick which was hit by Vitinho do Nascimento. Botucatu SC's Alexandre da Silveira got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 17th minute, Fábio Velasco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Alexandre da Silveira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jairo do Nascimento read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. The Botucatu SC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 34 minutes into the game, Joaquim Diniz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Barcelona's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Botucatu SC the free kick. After 34 played minutes Barcelona got a freekick which was hit by Joaquim Diniz. In the 37th minute, Filipe Fantini hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match clock showed 47 minutes, the score became 0-3 when Alexandre da Silveira sped through Barcelona's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jairo do Nascimento. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

Manolo Maia charged in rather forcefully in the 93rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Manolo Maia the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 93rd minute of the game.
