The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jairo do Nascimento showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Manoel Brasil, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. Arí das Neves received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 8th minute. Jairo do Nascimento tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. André Luiz de Azevedo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adalmo Terra having to interfere. In the 12th minute, André Luiz de Azevedo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 15 minutes into the match, Barcelona's André Luiz de Azevedo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Adalmo Terra narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Joaquim Diniz, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 19 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Adalmo Terra was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. In the 20th minute Manoel Brasil shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jairo do Nascimento saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Manolo Maia kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. In the 23rd minute of the match Rubinho Magalhães shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jairo do Nascimento showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 29th minute, André Luiz de Azevedo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Beto Carioca kicked well hit freekick during the 35th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Barcelona's zone, Arí das Neves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jairo do Nascimento came out of the goal and Arí das Neves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Arí das Neves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jairo do Nascimento having to make a save. Manoel Brasil scored 0-1 in the 47th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jairo do Nascimento, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The Barcelona players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Canarama were winning 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Joaquim Diniz stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Barcelona's zone, Arí das Neves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jairo do Nascimento came out of the goal and Arí das Neves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 60 minutes into the match, Canarama's goal looked a bit too open when André Luiz de Azevedo came free, but Adalmo Terra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Joaquim Diniz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Adalmo Terra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aílton Cosme, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Manolo Maia hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. The audience was convinced that Arí das Neves's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jairo do Nascimento was relentless in the 80th minute of the game. Canarama were furious when Baltazar Dante was red carded, 89 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests.
