The referee ignored Flamengo AC's protests and gave Beto Pires a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Itanaje FC booed when Flamengo AC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Beto Pires didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vitório Mesquita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Christian Barreto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Itanaje FC's Christian Barreto got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 23 minutes, Wilson Zonta managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Flamengo AC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Wilson Zonta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Vitório Mesquita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Christian Barreto in the 28th minute of the match. The supporters of Flamengo AC booed when Itanaje FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hélder Couto didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Christian Barreto in the 33rd minute of play forced Flamengo AC's goalkeeper Vitório Mesquita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 34 minutes, Hélder Couto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Itanaje FC and the Flamengo AC players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Itanaje FC getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Hélder Couto hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Flamengo AC's zone, Jaime Leme stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vitório Mesquita came out of the goal and Jaime Leme tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 43rd minute Christian Barreto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vitório Mesquita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cesinha Bittencourt to make the kick off. Romário Mendonça received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Marquinhos Quaresma tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Marquinhos Quaresma showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cesinha Bittencourt, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. Wilson Zonta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Beto Pires got his second yellow card in the match during the 92nd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 93rd match minute, Flamengo AC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Beto Pires to maneuver through the defense. 96 minutes into the game, Guto Lago was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Flamengo AC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Itanaje FC the free kick.
