Alfredo Simão was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Paiaia's Alfredo Simão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adhemar Severo in the 10th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alberto Tróia in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alfredo Simão saved Paiaia from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lino de Queirós in the 14th minute of play forced Paiaia's goalkeeper Alfredo Simão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Alberto Tróia's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alfredo Simão was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. When Lucas Cardoso fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Paiaia's protests and gave Lucas Cardoso a yellow card for diving instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dorival Amaral got free with Dênis Veiga in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dorival Amaral in the 36th minute of play forced Marumbe SC's goalkeeper Dênis Veiga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lino de Queirós received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Alfredo Simão tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alberto Tróia might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Alfredo Simão. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alberto Tróia ran back to his position shaking his head. Alfredo Simão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tróia in the 47th minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luís Paranaense stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With his leg Alfredo Simão managed to avoid a goal in the 52ndth minute, when Marumbe SC's Alberto Tróia fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 54 minutes into the match, Paiaia's goalkeeper Alfredo Simão had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jerônimo Coelho. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jerônimo Coelho got free with Alfredo Simão in the 56th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Alfredo Simão showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tróia in the 57th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Marumbe SC's Dé Teles got a free kick in the 58th minute. Jaime dos Santos missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 60 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Dênis Veiga right hand side. After 64 minutes, Fiori Quaresma mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Paiaia and the Marumbe SC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Marumbe SC booed when Paiaia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fiori Quaresma didn't get a good kick on the ball. 67 minutes into the game, Alberto Tróia recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Alfredo Simão. Alberto Tróia showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-3. 72 minutes into the match, Marumbe SC's goal looked a bit too open when Luís Paranaense came free, but Dênis Veiga reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 73 minutes into the game, Paiaia's Dorival Amaral nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dênis Veiga made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. After some careless play in the Paiaia defense, Alberto Tróia kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alfredo Simão. The Paiaia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alfredo Simão should have stopped the shot. The supporters of Marumbe SC booed when Paiaia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Paranaense didn't get a good kick on the ball. Alfredo Simão stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Alberto Tróia's shot from short distance in the 89th minute. Marumbe SC's Jerônimo Coelho got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Edmílson Nunes came up free with the goalie in the 93rd minute, the Paiaia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edmílson Nunes couldn't finish the play. Marumbe SC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
