Rui Santana fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ian Tepedino having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Válbson Massa in the 44th minute of play forced Sport's goalkeeper Chicão Gaúcho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Chicão Gaúcho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Waldir Faustino in the 46th minute of the match. Válbson Massa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chicão Gaúcho having to interfere.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Válbson Massa stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Sport's goalkeeper Chicão Gaúcho, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 54th minute Válbson Massa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chicão Gaúcho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Válbson Massa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Chicão Gaúcho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Waldir Faustinos short, quick shot in the 59thth minute got Chicão Gaúcho to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Sport's Chicão Gaúcho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Válbson Massa in the 60th minute of play. The supporters of Jaborandy booed when Sport was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gonçalo Medeiros didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Guga Prata fell near the penalty area in the 66th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sport's protests and gave Guga Prata a yellow card for diving instead. After 66 played minutes Sport got a freekick which was hit by Guga Prata. After having played for 67 minutes, Victor Massa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jaborandy's supporters crossed their fingers, but Victor Massa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Chicão Gaúcho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Válbson Massa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 73rd minute Válbson Massa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chicão Gaúcho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Chicão Gaúcho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Válbson Massa, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Sport's zone, Válbson Massa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Chicão Gaúcho came out of the goal and Válbson Massa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Chicão Gaúcho stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Válbson Massa's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. Chicão Gaúcho made an important save on a dangerous shot by Waldir Faustino in the 83rd minute. Gonçalo Medeiros might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ian Tepedino. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gonçalo Medeiros ran back to his position shaking his head. The Sport supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Jaborandy's performance. The match ended with a win for Jaborandy.
