Walmyr Travassos took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 23rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Igor Sarmento. Grêmio Lufano's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. A hard shot by Ediberto Brito from long distance, 28 minutes into the match, got Igor Sarmento's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Walmyr Travassos was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 48th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dida Sampaio to make the kick off. Armindo Costa charged in rather forcefully in the 52nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. João Carlos Massa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 91 minutes into the game, Mozarlandia's Telmo da Mata nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Igor Sarmento made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. In the 95th minute, Murilo Tepedino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
