After some careless play in the Esponjas do Couto defense, Tostão Lucas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ulysses de Brito. The Esponjas do Couto fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ulysses de Brito should have stopped the shot. Erasmo de Mendonça sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Esponjas do Couto's Cássio Peres got a free kick in the 21st minute. After recieving a nice pass, Caipe's Zé Pedro França tried to score from far away in the 22nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Tostão Lucas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Erasmo de Mendonça fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Régis Brodel having to interfere. Sandrinho Neto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ulysses de Brito read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. If Sandrinho Neto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half Caipe were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sandrinho Neto to make the kick off. Régis Brodel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Enéas Lara in the 53rd minute of the match. After 56 played minutes Caipe got a freekick which was hit by Leonel Valle. A collision led to Esponjas do Couto getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Víktor Carneiro hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gerson Pires in the 66th minute of play forced Caipe's goalkeeper Régis Brodel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Délio Marinho fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Esponjas do Couto's protests and gave Délio Marinho a yellow card for diving instead. Délio Marinho hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. Sandrinho Neto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Ulysses de Brito tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Enéas Lara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Régis Brodel having to interfere. During the 82nd minute of the match Leonel Valle completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Leonel Valle a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. A collision led to Caipe getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Leonel Valle hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Erasmo de Mendonça in the 84th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Régis Brodel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 85th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esponjas do Couto's goalkeeper Ulysses de Brito, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Tostão Lucas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ulysses de Brito having to interfere. When the final whistle sounded Caipe left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Esponjas do Couto.
