Cristian Ribeiro's late challenge caught a Sport Recife's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Sport Recife's supporters crossed their fingers, but Manoel Arruda was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jardel Paes made an important save on a dangerous shot by Egídio Tróia in the 27th minute. In the 28th minute Manoel Arruda shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Juarês Sampaio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Juarês Sampaio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Benjamim Pena, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. Manoel Arruda fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juarês Sampaio having to interfere. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sandrinho do Nascimento made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Manoel Arruda managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sport Recife's supporters rose to their feet, but Manoel Arruda was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Juarês Sampaio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Raúl de Alcântara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Manoel Arruda came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Sport Recife fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manoel Arruda couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Zarzuela SC's Beto Carvalho got a free kick in the 58th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Zarzuela SC's zone, Manoel Arruda stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Juarês Sampaio came out of the goal and Manoel Arruda tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Raúl de Alcântara blasted a shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Juarês Sampaio having to make a save. Manoel Arruda might have been able to make a better finish in the 69th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Juarês Sampaio. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Manoel Arruda ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sandrinho do Nascimento in the 75th minute of play forced Sport Recife's goalkeeper Jardel Paes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 77th minute, Zarzuela SC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Manoel Arruda fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Juarês Sampaio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Raúl de Alcântara in the 80th minute of play. Raúl de Alcântara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
