The referee ignored Carios's protests and gave Osvaldinho Jacinto a yellow card for diving instead. In the 5th match minute, Carios was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Osvaldinho Jacinto to maneuver through the defense. Guga Pitta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Álvaro Vieira in the 7th minute of play. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind Carios's goalkeeper Guga Pitta, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Mazinho Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Itacurussu getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Caco Fernandes hit a great ball. Danilo Ferraz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomás Figueiredo having to interfere. Danilo Ferraz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Tomás Figueiredo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 16th minute of play. After 21 minutes of play, Carios's Mazinho Magalhães made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Tomás Figueiredo was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Danilo Ferraz managed to get in a good position for a shot. Carios's supporters rose to their feet, but Danilo Ferraz was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tomás Figueiredo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Jânio Cardoso fell near the penalty area in the 28th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Itacurussu's protests and gave Jânio Cardoso a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Itacurussu getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Jânio Cardoso hit a great ball. Itacurussu's Tomás Figueiredo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mazinho Magalhães in the 29th minute of play. When Danilo Ferraz, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 36 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Tomás Figueiredo was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Tomás Figueiredo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Danilo Ferraz in the 41st minute of the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Danilo Ferraz to make the kick off. Mazinho Magalhães came free with the goalkeeper in the 53rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Tomás Figueiredo could save by the left post. Mazinho Magalhãess short, quick shot in the 55thth minute got Tomás Figueiredo to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After having played for 56 minutes, Mazinho Magalhães managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Carios's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mazinho Magalhães was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 60 played minutes Itacurussu got a freekick which was hit by Jânio Cardoso. 61 minutes into the game, Mazinho Magalhães cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Tomás Figueiredo was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 66 minutes, Glauco Simão made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. Carios's Guga Pitta tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. With a little luck, Itacurussu's Tomás Figueiredo got control of the ball when Mazinho Magalhães tried to sneak it across the goal line. Glauco Simão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Guga Pitta having to interfere. 87 minutes into the match, Itacurussu's goal looked a bit too open when Danilo Ferraz came free, but Tomás Figueiredo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Caco Fernandes kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Itacurussu's Caco Fernandes got a free kick in the 94th minute. If Mazinho Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Carios had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
