After a defensive mix-up in Athenas's zone, Chico Berger stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jano Peixoto came out of the goal and Chico Berger tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Athenas's Rui Freitas got a free kick in the 60th minute. If Nildo Massa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Emerson Pirani blasted a shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Josué Castro having to make a save. In the 75th minute the ball was on its way in behind Athenas's goalkeeper Jano Peixoto, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Narciso de Queirós might have been able to make a better finish in the 83rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jano Peixoto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out.
