When Arthur Vaz fell near the penalty area in the 34th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Palmeiras's protests and gave Arthur Vaz a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Palmeiras getting a freekick after 34 minutes play. Arthur Vaz hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Palmeiras's Arthur Vaz got a free kick in the 36th minute. Palmeiras's Luiz Paulo Sergipano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mathias Vidal in the 48th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Mathias Vidal made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mathias Vidal in the 54th minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Luiz Paulo Sergipano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 63rd match minute, Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arthur Vaz to maneuver through the defense. Luiz Paulo Sergipano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mathias Vidal in the 69th minute of play. Dinei Lucas showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kléberson Breckenfeld, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Palmeiras's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Xerente the free kick. After 87 played minutes Palmeiras got a freekick which was hit by Kléberson Breckenfeld. Luiz Paulo Sergipano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mathias Vidal, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Kléberson Breckenfeld fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dinei Lucas having to interfere. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Xerente walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
