Caubi's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Palmeiras the free kick. The supporters of Palmeiras booed when Caubi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gilberto Pirani didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luiz Paulo Sergipano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gilberto Pirani in the 31st minute. A collision led to Palmeiras getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Luís Fernando Netto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Elano Loureiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luiz Paulo Sergipano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilberto Pirani in the 55th minute of play. In the 57th minute, Dito Gomes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Caubi fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Gilberto Pirani hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. The Caubi fans cheered their team off the field, for while Palmeiras had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
