Nelsinho Medeiros's late challenge caught a Parahyba's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in sol das 10's zone, Maurício Santos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sílvio Luiz Loyola came out of the goal and Maurício Santos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Naldo Marinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sílvio Luiz Loyola having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

It was beautiful to see sol das 10's Aloísio Brasil in action when he in the 53rd minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Maurício Santos couldn't finish the play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Maurício Santos in the 95th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sílvio Luiz Loyola saved sol das 10 from getting behind. sol das 10's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
