After a defensive mix-up in Machacalis EC's zone, Samuca Mendes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cássio Mattos came out of the goal and Samuca Mendes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Machacalis EC's Cássio Mattos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juninho Paulista in the 23rd minute of play. In the 24th match minute, Machacalis EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alfredinho Linhares to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Machacalis EC's zone, Samuca Mendes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cássio Mattos came out of the goal and Samuca Mendes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fernandinho Paraense kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juninho Paulista during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 27th match minute, Fonseca FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juninho Paulista to maneuver through the defense. Cássio Mattos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Samuca Mendes in the 39th minute. When Alfredinho Linhares fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Machacalis EC's protests and gave Alfredinho Linhares a yellow card for diving instead. After 42 played minutes Machacalis EC got a freekick which was hit by Alfredinho Linhares. Fonseca FC's Oswaldo Marques couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Machacalis EC. The supporters of Fonseca FC booed when Machacalis EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fernandinho Paraense didn't get a good kick on the ball. Alexandre de Almeida came out of the goal and Edgar Medeiros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Juninho Paulista recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 93rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Samuca Mendes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Machacalis EC were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Fonseca FC's much stronger midfield.
