The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Christian Souza showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dino Xavier in the 8th minute of the match. Osmar Hermes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Frank Vasconcelos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Frank Vasconcelos stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Osmar Hermes's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. The audience was convinced that Dino Xavier's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Christian Souza was relentless in the 21st minute of the game. Claudinei Moreira hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. After 24 played minutes Lencois got a freekick which was hit by Erik Siqueira. Mazinho Cearense who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 25thth minute tested the skills of Frank Vasconcelos when he managed to save the team from getting behind. With a little luck, Lencois's Frank Vasconcelos got control of the ball when Mazinho Cearense tried to sneak it across the goal line. 28 minutes into the match, Lencois's goal looked a bit too open when Osmar Hermes came free, but Frank Vasconcelos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mazinho Cearense received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Frank Vasconcelos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Lencois booed when Cabreuva was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulão de Amaral didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dino Xavier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Christian Souza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Geovani Torres, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Geovani Torres sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dino Xavier was the one to do the kick off. 64 minutes into the match, Mazinho Cearense had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Frank Vasconcelos. Lencois's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Mazinho Cearense was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Frank Vasconcelos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mazinho Cearense, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Zeca Barros fell near the penalty area in the 75th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cabreuva's protests and gave Zeca Barros a yellow card for diving instead. In the 76th minute, Zeca Barros hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 77th minute Dino Xavier shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Christian Souza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Osmar Hermes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mazinho Cearense in the 84th minute of play forced Lencois's goalkeeper Frank Vasconcelos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Christian Souza came out of the goal in the 87th minute to try and stop a shot by Lencois's Geovani Torres. But to his dismay, Geovani Torres quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Geovani Torres's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 97thth minute, Christian Souza skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal.
