Zeca Torres sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cacaueira's Gonçalo Ferreira got a good chance for a goal in the 7th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With his leg Jaime Mello managed to avoid a goal in the 12thth minute, when Pioes's João Augusto Sena fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Zeca Torres struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Elias de Lima didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cacaueira. 20 minutes into the match, Cacaueira's goal looked a bit too open when Erik Favoretto came free, but Jaime Mello reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 21 minutes, Carlos Alberto Paes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cacaueira and the Pioes players grew even worse after the yellow card.
