Zé Carlos do Nascimento, 15 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Ademir Dante let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 17th minute shot 1-0 at rihgt post. Luiz Fábio Azevedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Paulo Renato Vergílio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luiz Fábio Azevedo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulo Renato Vergílio having to interfere. Venceslau's Luiz Fábio Azevedo came free and shot a quick shot against goal 33 minutes in the game, fortunately Paulo Renato Vergílio had problems saving as it came toward the left post. 33 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Venceslau's Luiz Fábio Azevedo fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. Ademir Dante received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Paulo Renato Vergílio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 41 played minutes Venceslau got a freekick which was hit by Ademir Dante. Paulo Renato Vergílio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ademir Dante in the 44th minute of play. Luiz Fábio Azevedo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 45thth minute tested the skills of Paulo Renato Vergílio when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ademir Dante stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute Luiz Fábio Azevedo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paulo Renato Vergílio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ademir Dante in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Paulo Renato Vergílio prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The supporters of SANTOS FC booed when Venceslau was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ademir Dante didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Naldo de Salles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, SANTOS FC's Alessandro Peixoto got a free kick in the 79th minute. Paulo Renato Vergílio came out of the goal in the 83rd minute to try and stop a shot by Venceslau's Luiz Fábio Azevedo. But to his dismay, Luiz Fábio Azevedo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. If Ademir Dante had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 90th minute, Kiko Cunha reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Reinaldo Romero. The goal made the score 3-1. Paulo Renato Vergílio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luiz Fábio Azevedo in the 95th minute of the match.
