RIO DE JANEIRO's Sydney Andrade ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Dionísio Dantas. Dionísio Dantas yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Silas Galvão in the 18th minute of play forced E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's goalkeeper Tarcisio Almeida to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 25th minute, Silas Galvão ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tarcisio Almeida was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Válter Rezende got free with Dionísio Dantas in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Tarcisio Almeida showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Basílio Moreira, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. Válter Rezende struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Dionísio Dantas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO. Carataca AD's Dionísio Dantas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Válter Rezende in the 46th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's Tarcisio Almeida proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 57th minute of the match, managed to save E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO from getting a goal against them. Dionísio Dantas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Betão Melo in the 58th minute of play. When Agenor Alvarenga came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Agenor Alvarenga couldn't finish the play. If Basílio Moreira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's Tarcisio Almeida got control of the ball when Silas Galvão tried to sneak it across the goal line. Tarcisio Almeida made an important save on a dangerous shot by Silas Galvão in the 78th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Válter Rezende in the 79th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dionísio Dantas prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 81 minutes in the game, Basílio Moreira fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Tarcisio Almeida having to interfere. In the 84th minute, Betão Melo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that Válter Rezende's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dionísio Dantas was relentless in the 86th minute of the game. Lauro Moraes kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match.
