The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Chiquinho Cosme during the 2nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Chiquinho Cosme hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. Donato Cunha recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 7th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Atlético Rioverdense's zone, Sílvio Luís Mello stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Emerson Nunes came out of the goal and Sílvio Luís Mello tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Benê Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 18th minute, Lagarta AD's Cido Fernandes ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Emerson Nunes. Emerson Nunes yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. Sílvio Luís Mello fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emerson Nunes having to interfere. If Sílvio Luís Mello had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Sílvio Luís Mello came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Lagarta AD fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sílvio Luís Mello couldn't finish the play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Benê Souza to strike the kick off in the second half. Benê Souza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Dênis Valadares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 56 minutes of play Lagarta AD's Chiquinho Cosme was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. A collision led to Lagarta AD getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Chiquinho Cosme hit a great ball. If Benê Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Lagarta AD booed when Atlético Rioverdense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benedito Prata didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Atlético Rioverdense defense, Sílvio Luís Mello kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Emerson Nunes. The Atlético Rioverdense fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Emerson Nunes should have stopped the shot. Emerson Nunes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sílvio Luís Mello in the 89th minute of play. Lagarta AD walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
