Caras's Lenílson Quadros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jarbas Schmidt in the 11th minute of play. Itapeuna's Severino Duarte got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Severino Duarte came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Itapeuna fans jumped to their feet.
