In the 8th minute André Luís Guimarães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Raí Penha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling André Luís Guimarães in the 13th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Raí Penha prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 14 minutes into the match, Betinho Lopes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Raí Penha. botafogo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Betinho Lopes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. The audience was convinced that André Luís Guimarães's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Raí Penha was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. When Sandrinho Santana came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Secura fans jumped to their feet. The supporters of botafogo booed when Secura was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Délio Pinheiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Betinho Lopes, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 37 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Raí Penha was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Betinho Lopes blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Raí Penha having to make a save. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Reinaldo Ferraz made the kick off in the second half. André Luís Guimarães struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Raí Penha didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Secura. 2-0 became the score in the 60th minute when André Luís Guimarães elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. In the 70th minute, Tomás Sarmento hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. André Luís Guimarães sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by André Luís Guimarães in the 77th minute of play forced botafogo's goalkeeper Raí Penha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 88 played minutes botafogo got a freekick which was hit by Aníbal Gaspar. After a defensive mix-up in Secura's zone, Roger Tasso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dieguinho Maranhense came out of the goal and Roger Tasso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of botafogo booed when Secura was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sandrinho Santana didn't get a good kick on the ball. Secura walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
