In the 3rd minute, Luís Gustavo Paes fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Almir Queiroz in the 6th minute of play forced Curuzu's goalkeeper José Pedro Machado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Guarandi's Oscar Dantas got a free kick in the 8th minute. Túlio Ramos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rodrigo Brasil having to interfere. Túlio Ramos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Almir Queiroz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. José Pedro Machado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luís Gustavo Paes made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 23rdth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Rodrigo Brasil would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. The supporters of Curuzu booed when Guarandi was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aníbal Severo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Amílton Zonta's shot from long distance in the 26th minute was not bad at all, but Guarandi's Rodrigo Brasil knew what was happening and pushed the ball into his arms just before it hit the right post. Rodrigo Brasil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Túlio Ramos, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Guarandi's Rodrigo Brasil played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Túlio Ramos in the 31st minute of play. Guarandi's Rodrigo Brasil proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 33rd minute of the match, managed to save Guarandi from getting a goal against them. Luís Gustavo Paes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rodrigo Brasil having to interfere. With a little luck, Guarandi's Rodrigo Brasil got control of the ball when Luís Gustavo Paes tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Luís Gustavo Paes came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Curuzu fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luís Gustavo Paes couldn't finish the play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Nilton Mangueira struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. José Pedro Machado didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Guarandi. An unexpectedly hard shot by Túlio Ramos in the 58th minute of play forced Guarandi's goalkeeper Rodrigo Brasil to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Túlio Ramos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Luís Gustavo Paes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rodrigo Brasil was relentless in the 62nd minute of the game. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
