An unexpectedly hard shot by Osmar de Queiroz in the 15th minute of play forced DRACARYS F. C.'s goalkeeper Valdemar Pitta to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Valdemar Pitta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Osmar de Queiroz, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. If Osmar de Queiroz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Valdemar Pitta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elói Britto in the 28th minute of play. In the 38th minute Cássio Almeida shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valdemar Pitta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Claudinho Berger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Claudinho Berger was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Varedao's Osmar de Queiroz got a free kick in the 67th minute. Claudinho Berger fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlos Alberto Freitas having to interfere. With a little luck, DRACARYS F. C.'s Valdemar Pitta got control of the ball when Osmar de Queiroz tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 76th match minute, DRACARYS F. C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronaldinho Massa to maneuver through the defense. Cássio Almeida recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 77th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Cássio Almeida had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Claudinho Berger blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Carlos Alberto Freitas having to make a save. Osmar de Queiroz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Valdemar Pitta having to interfere. If Renato Hoffmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Varedao eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
