The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After having played for 5 minutes, Marcelinho Furlan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Operario FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcelinho Furlan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Camargos's Cícero Sousa got a free kick in the 7th minute. Léo Marques lost his temper 13 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 12th minute, one of Operario FC:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Operario FC. Operario FC:s Zé Roberto Godoi showed great skill when he stopped Edvaldo Porto:s penalty. Camargos's Osvaldo Motta played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Flávio Penha in the 17th minute of play. When Mazinho Matos came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Operario FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mazinho Matos couldn't finish the play. Luizinho Catarinense struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Zé Roberto Godoi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Camargos. The supporters of Operario FC booed when Camargos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thiago Bittencourt didn't get a good kick on the ball. Giovanni Vieira took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 23rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Osvaldo Motta. Camargos's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.
