Vitório Paiva showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Doriva Recife, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. S.E.Palmeiras's Felipe Capixaba was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 30th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Frédson Vargas stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Doriva Recife kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Ariau's zone, Felipe Capixaba stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Durval Paraibano came out of the goal and Felipe Capixaba tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 58 minutes into the match, Ariau's goal looked a bit too open when Frédson Vargas came free, but Durval Paraibano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jerônimo Barreto's late challenge caught a Ariau's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jerônimo Barreto helped the player get up and apologised. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 61st minute of the game. One of S.E.Palmeiras:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Ariau:s goal. If Doriva Recife had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Edgard Duarte struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Vitório Paiva didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ariau. The audience thought a goal was coming when Doriva Recife got free with Vitório Paiva in the 97th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
