In the 14th minute of the match, Albertinho Lira tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Válbson Lima saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 21stth minute of the game Elói Zanette who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rodrigues EC's Gilberto Travassos was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Melancias's Valdomiro Abreu got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 25 minutes, Carlos Alberto Albuquerque managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Melancias's supporters crossed their fingers, but Carlos Alberto Albuquerque was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dorival Mineiro couldn't finish the play. In the 45th minute, Rodrigues EC's Albertinho Lira ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Válbson Lima. Válbson Lima yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Albertinho Lira was the one to do the kick off. 51 minutes into the game, Jorge Gaspar was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Rodrigues EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Melancias the free kick. After a rather tough play, Rodrigues EC's Jorge Gaspar got a free kick in the 51st minute. The audience was convinced that Elói Zanette's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gilberto Travassos was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. Adelino Arantes hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. Carlos Alberto Albuquerque succeeded in the game's 81st minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-2.
