The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Pedro Luiz de Senna blasted a shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Diguinho Ceresso having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aloísio de Lara in the 20th minute of play forced Guaraipo's goalkeeper Diguinho Ceresso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A hard shot 24 in the game by Nelson Fontes from a close distance when the talented Eliézer Queiroz managed to make a qualified save. Itapitacai SC's players were relieved. Pedro Luiz de Senna hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. After 27 played minutes Guaraipo got a freekick which was hit by Nelson Fontes. Diguinho Ceresso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedro Luiz de Senna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Eliézer Queiroz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rafa Cunha in the 30th minute of play. Genílson Leme kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. Nelson Fontes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 38th minute of the match, but Eliézer Queiroz made a huge save. In the 39th minute, Sandro Ramos got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nelson Fontes's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 42ndth minute, Eliézer Queiroz skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Genílson Leme struck a weak shot in the 43rd minute. Eliézer Queiroz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Guaraipo. Eliézer Queiroz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rafa Cunha, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pedro Luiz de Senna stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nelson Fontes in the 53rd minute of play forced Itapitacai SC's goalkeeper Eliézer Queiroz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Itapitacai SC's Eliézer Queiroz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nelson Fontes in the 59th minute of play. If Nelson Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Nelson Fontes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Guaraipo's supporters rose to their feet, but Nelson Fontes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eliézer Queiroz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nelson Fontes in the 71st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Eliézer Queiroz saved Itapitacai SC from getting behind. Nelson Fontes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 75th minute, Itapitacai SC's Pedro Luiz de Senna ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Diguinho Ceresso. Diguinho Ceresso yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. Pedro Luiz de Senna hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. If Nelson Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 87th match minute, Guaraipo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rafa Cunha to maneuver through the defense. In the 94th minute Nelson Fontes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eliézer Queiroz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Aloísio de Lara could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Diguinho Ceresso made a huge save. After 96 minutes of play, Guaraipo's Genílson Leme made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Eliézer Queiroz was left in no man's land by his defense there! It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Guaraipo had played much better football throughout.
