The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Caio de Brito could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 4th minute of the match, but Eusébio Rosado made a huge save. Eusébio Rosado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Fernando Brodel, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. A collision led to Umari getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Dorian Mattos hit a great ball. Naldo Cearense recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 20 minutes in the game, Cássio Cardoso fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Eusébio Rosado having to interfere. 23 minutes into the game, Virgílio Favoretto recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Eusébio Rosado. Virgílio Favoretto showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Ronaldo Furtado hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Severino Santos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 29th minute, Naldo Cearense got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 31 played minutes Virgílio Favoretto rounded Umari's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 2-0. After having played for 36 minutes, Virgílio Favoretto managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mamanguape's supporters crossed their fingers, but Virgílio Favoretto was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Umari defense, Naldo Cearense kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eusébio Rosado. The Umari fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eusébio Rosado should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Mamanguape's zone, Dário Coelho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. José Paulo Loureiro came out of the goal and Dário Coelho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Jano Lucas made the kick off in the second half. Mamanguape's Virgílio Favoretto got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Virgílio Favoretto's late challenge caught a Umari's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Virgílio Favoretto helped the player get up and apologised.
