The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Valdir Hames managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lagoinhas's supporters rose to their feet, but Valdir Hames was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Leonel Neto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Christian de Alcântara's late challenge caught a Flamengo F.C's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Christian de Alcântara helped the player get up and apologised. Almir da Silva hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. 21 minutes into the match, Flamengo F.C's goalkeeper Leonel Neto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Valdir Hames. Luiz Gustavo Abraão was extremely unlucky when he, in the 22nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Jonas Aparecido kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. Valdir Hames received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Leonel Neto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Felippe Massa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joaquim Cordeiro in the 29th minute of the match. The penalty shot was made by Christian de Alcântara, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Flamengo F.C's Leonel Neto. 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Gustavo Abraão in the 48th minute of play forced Flamengo F.C's goalkeeper Leonel Neto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Fábio das Neves hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Valdir Hames recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Lagoinhas's Felippe Massa got control of the ball when Jonas Carneiro tried to sneak it across the goal line. The Lagoinhas manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Flamengo F.C to win.
