The audience was convinced that Júlio de Queirós's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ricardinho Salgado was relentless in the 4th minute of the game. In the 10th minute, Quindiua FC's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Sidnei Branco fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Quindiua FC's Donatello Barreto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Osvaldo Domingues in the 11th minute of play. Célio Schmidt hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Donatello Barreto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Osvaldo Domingues in the 13th minute of play. Quindiua FC's Donatello Barreto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Osvaldo Domingues in the 24th minute of play. Osvaldo Domingues fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donatello Barreto having to interfere. After 29 minutes of play, Salante SC's Gustavo Brodel made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Donatello Barreto was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Sílvio Luís de Godoy had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sidnei Branco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Donatello Barreto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Quindiua FC's Sílvio Luís de Godoy got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 45 minutes into the match, Quindiua FC's Sílvio Luís de Godoy sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ricardinho Salgado narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Júlio de Queirós to make the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Quindiua FC's zone, Sidnei Branco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Donatello Barreto came out of the goal and Sidnei Branco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gustavo Brodel during the 57th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 57th match minute, Salante SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gustavo Brodel to maneuver through the defense. Ricardinho Salgado took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Júlio de Queirós, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, Salante SC's Ricardinho Salgado got control of the ball when Sílvio Luís de Godoy tried to sneak it across the goal line. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 71st minute of the game. One of Salante SC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Quindiua FC:s goal. The referee gave Quindiua FC a penalty, 73 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Washington do Vale, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Salante SC's Ricardinho Salgado. 1-1. Sílvio Luís de Godoy recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Quindiua FC's Sílvio Luís de Godoy got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Quindiua FC's Donatello Barreto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Osvaldo Domingues in the 93rd minute of play. In the 97th minute, Osvaldo Domingues got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
