Oswaldo de Salles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vicente Cearense in the 5th minute of the match. Glauco Baiano hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. When the match had gone on for 7 minutes, Walmyr Toscano put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Oswaldo de Salles. 15 minutes into the game, Vicente Cearense cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Oswaldo de Salles was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a defensive mix-up in SÃO PAULO F.C's zone, Walmyr Toscano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Oswaldo de Salles came out of the goal and Walmyr Toscano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Golden Boys getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. César Rosa hit a great ball. In the 36th minute Vicente Cearense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Oswaldo de Salles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vicente Cearense might have been able to make a better finish in the 41st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Oswaldo de Salles. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Vicente Cearense ran back to his position shaking his head. Walmyr Toscano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Vicente Cearense managed to get in a good position for a shot. Golden Boys's supporters rose to their feet, but Vicente Cearense was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Oswaldo de Salles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half Golden Boys were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 53rd minute, Walmyr Toscano left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Golden Boys fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Golden Boys's Joaquim Simão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leopoldo Sampaio in the 61st minute of play. 65 minutes into the match, SÃO PAULO F.C's goalkeeper Oswaldo de Salles had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Walmyr Toscano. Maurício Ramos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquim Simão having to interfere. Oswaldo de Salles didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 77th minute, which inside left pole to 1-4. With a little luck, SÃO PAULO F.C's Oswaldo de Salles got control of the ball when Walmyr Toscano tried to sneak it across the goal line.
