Bernardo Vinhas started the match with the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Eduardo Campidelis in the 5th minute of play forced Ibatequara's goalkeeper Romeu Damião to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luís Eduardo Campidelis sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cantagallo's Luís Eduardo Campidelis got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Carlos Alberto Paraíba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bernardo Vinhas, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Luís Eduardo Campidelis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Romeu Damião tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Washington Vale who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 37thth minute tested the skills of Carlos Alberto Paraíba when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Bernardo Vinhas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ibatequara's supporters rose to their feet, but Bernardo Vinhas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Carlos Alberto Paraíba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Robinho Diniz kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Washington Vale recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ibatequara's Bernardo Vinhas got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Washington Vale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Luís Eduardo Campidelis to make the kick off. Carlos Eduardo Silveira's late challenge caught a Cantagallo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Carlos Eduardo Silveira helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Ibatequara getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Natanael Medeiros hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Benjamim Pena got free with Romeu Damião in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ibatequara's Severino Nunes got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Bernardo Vinhas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carlos Alberto Paraíba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bernardo Vinhas in the 69th minute of the match. If Washington Vale had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
