The audience was convinced that Carlinhos Bertassi's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Luís Paulo Magalhães was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. Flavinho Salgado's late challenge caught a Aristeu's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Flavinho Salgado helped the player get up and apologised. In the 10th match minute, Fundo da Grota was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Flavinho Salgado to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Fundo da Grota's Durvalino Tinoco got a free kick in the 28th minute. 29 minutes into the match, Jaime Ferraz had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luís Paulo Magalhães. Fundo da Grota's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jaime Ferraz was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Jaime Ferraz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 36th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Carlos Fernando Aguiar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Zé Rosa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Paulo Magalhães having to interfere. With a little luck, Aristeu's Belmiro Pontes got control of the ball when Carlos Sarmento tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Yuri Mineiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
In the 53rd minute Carlos Sarmento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Belmiro Pontes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carlinhos Bertassi charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In the 90th minute, Fundo da Grota's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Jaime Ferraz fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. After having played for 92 minutes, Yuri Mineiro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Aristeu's supporters crossed their fingers, but Yuri Mineiro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Carlos Fernando Aguiar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Luís Paulo Magalhães tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
