The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Carlos Gaspar hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. In the 5th match minute, Trapia EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Gaspar to maneuver through the defense. FC Marítimo's Dênis Neto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Silvério Gonçalves in the 7th minute of play. Dênis Neto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Silvério Gonçalves, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. Dé Machado made an important save on a dangerous shot by Aleandro Faustino in the 12th minute. After some careless play in the Trapia EC defense, Aleandro Faustino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dé Machado. The Trapia EC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dé Machado should have stopped the shot. After having played for 27 minutes, Aleandro Faustino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Marítimo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aleandro Faustino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Caco Senna took the ball and in the 29 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Dé Machado. Dé Machado dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Caco Senna could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Dé Machado made a huge save. Dé Machado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnaldo Passos in the 34th minute of play. Denílson Ribeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Edgard Cunha kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Caco Senna could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 47th minute of the match, but Dé Machado made a huge save.

Dé Machado showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Caco Senna in the 53rd minute of the match. In the 55th minute, Trapia EC's Eugênio Neto ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Dênis Neto. Dênis Neto yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. Denílson Ribeiro's late challenge caught a Trapia EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Denílson Ribeiro helped the player get up and apologised. Denílson Ribeiro kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Silvério Gonçalves got free with Dênis Neto in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 67 minutes into the match, Trapia EC's goal looked a bit too open when Ernesto Carioca came free, but Dé Machado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Trapia EC getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Eugênio Neto hit a great ball. Denílson Ribeiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 74th match minute, Trapia EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tony de Amorim to maneuver through the defense. FC Marítimo's Aleandro Faustino got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The FC Marítimo fans' excitement grew in the 85th match minute when FC Marítimo's Caco Senna looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. If Arnaldo Passos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 94th minute, FC Marítimo's Ernani Palmeira seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Ernani Palmeira the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of FC Marítimo protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Ernani Palmeira had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in FC Marítimo fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 94th minute. Penalty! David Novaes placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. FC Marítimo had played much better football throughout.
