But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vitório da Fonseca couldn't finish the play. Luizinho Valle was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 15th minute. Damasio's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. 17 minutes into the match, Luizinho Valle dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Silas Neiva, 1-0. 22 minutes into the match, Giru's goalkeeper Silas Neiva had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vitório da Fonseca. With a little luck, Giru's Silas Neiva got control of the ball when Vitório da Fonseca tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 26 played minutes Giru got a freekick which was hit by Abel Pena. Vitório da Fonseca could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 43rd minute of the match, but Silas Neiva made a huge save. Raimundo Brasil showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ismael Paulista, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

A collision led to Giru getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Jeremias Moreira hit a great ball. Damasio's Luizinho Valle got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Luizinho Valle's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Silas Neiva was relentless in the 56th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 69th minute, Ismael Paulista managed to get in a good position for a shot. Giru's supporters rose to their feet, but Ismael Paulista was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Raimundo Brasil breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Vitório da Fonseca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Silas Neiva tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Giru's Silas Neiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vitório da Fonseca in the 82nd minute of play. Jeremias Moreira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
