Samuca Alcântara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Brejatuba SS's Nelsinho Ferraz pulled a muscle in his leg after 10 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Vladimir Toscano charged in rather forcefully in the 10th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vladimir Toscano the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The audience held their breath when Rui Batista in the 13th minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Valdo Vides's left hand side. Enio Barbosa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Samuca Alcântara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 23rd minute, Naldo Chaves made a precise shot to the right of Samuca Alcântara. Brejatuba SS's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. After 29 minutes of play, Zxy FC's Umberto Senna made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Samuca Alcântara was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 33rd minute, Osmar Duarte got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Enio Barbosa came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Zxy FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Enio Barbosa couldn't finish the play. After 41 played minutes Zxy FC got a freekick which was hit by Zé Roberto Rezende. After the first half Zxy FC were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Osmar Duarte to make the kick off. Samuca Alcântara took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Naldo Chaves, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 63 minutes into the match, Naldo Chaves had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Samuca Alcântara. Brejatuba SS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Naldo Chaves was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. If Umberto Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 71st minute, Denílson Saldanha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Zxy FC's Edgard Oliveira got a free kick in the 79th minute. Denílson Saldanha took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 80th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Valdo Vides. Zxy FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Brejatuba SS's zone, Umberto Senna stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Samuca Alcântara came out of the goal and Umberto Senna tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Naldo Chaves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Rui Batista hit a great freekick 98 minutes into the match. 100 minutes into the match, Zxy FC's Enio Barbosa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Samuca Alcântara narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The Zxy FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Zxy FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
