Claudinei Ramos took the ball and in the 12 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Manolo Barbosa. Manolo Barbosa dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. AGUIA DO VALE's Luís Gaúcho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edson Fernandez in the 30th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in AGUIA DO VALE's zone, Edson Fernandez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. After 44 minutes of play, AGUIA DO VALE's Claudinei Ramos made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Manolo Barbosa was left in no man's land by his defense there! Edson Fernandezs short, quick shot in the 47thth minute got Luís Gaúcho to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edson Fernandez stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Edson Fernandez's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luís Gaúcho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 80th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Claudinei Ramos in the 83rd minute of play forced Bota Fogo RJ's goalkeeper Manolo Barbosa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bota Fogo RJ's Manolo Barbosa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 87th minute of the match, managed to save Bota Fogo RJ from getting a goal against them. After 92 played minutes Bota Fogo RJ got a freekick which was hit by Dudu Castro. With his leg Manolo Barbosa managed to avoid a goal in the 94thth minute, when AGUIA DO VALE's Gildo Porto fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The AGUIA DO VALE supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing AGUIA DO VALE would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
