Romário de Almeida charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Romário de Almeida the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Caraparu booed when S.E Portucalense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romário de Almeida didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Caraparu's Rodolfo Carvalho got a free kick in the 17th minute. Júlio Sarmento sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 48th minute, Júlio Sarmento ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Juvenal Simões was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Guto Castro made a kick off. 54 minutes into the match, S.E Portucalense's goal looked a bit too open when Rodolfo Carvalho came free, but Juvenal Simões reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Rodolfo Carvalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Caraparu's zone, Umberto Trigo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Delfim Monteiro came out of the goal and Umberto Trigo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 97 minutes of play, Caraparu's Júlio Sarmento made it 0-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Juvenal Simões was left in no man's land by his defense there!
