Potreirito's Tadeu Sarmento got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sandro da Mata got free with Fellipe Penha in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in Catingas's zone, Sandro da Mata stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fellipe Penha came out of the goal and Sandro da Mata tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 20th minute, Cícero Lira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Carlos Barbosa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Fellipe Penha made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sandro da Mata in the 26th minute. After a rather tough play, Potreirito's Eduardo Araújo got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Sílvio Luís Teles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Laércio Pimenta having to interfere. Carlos Barbosa might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Laércio Pimenta. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Carlos Barbosa ran back to his position shaking his head. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Sílvio Luís Teles in the 43rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Laércio Pimenta saved Potreirito from getting behind. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tadeu Sarmento was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Catingas's Hortêncio Campidelis got a free kick in the 54th minute. After 56 minutes, Durval Mendes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Potreirito and the Catingas players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Potreirito getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Durval Mendes hit a great ball. When Tadeu Sarmento, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 61 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Fellipe Penha was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Laércio Pimenta was out of position in the 70 minute of play, and Carlos Barbosa capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Carlos Barbosa really showed his touch with that goal: 0-1. Fellipe Penha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sandro da Mata, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. Fellipe Penha stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sandro da Mata's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. Tadeu Sarmento fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fellipe Penha having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Walmir Tavares during the 92nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 92nd match minute, Catingas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Walmir Tavares to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sandro da Mata in the 94th minute of play forced Catingas's goalkeeper Fellipe Penha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
