After a rather tough play, Cafungo EC's Eliézer Teles got a free kick in the 8th minute. In the 9th minute, Marcos Urbano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Armando Chaves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adrianinho de Moraes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cocos's Adrianinho de Moraes got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. João Augusto de Barros struck a weak shot in the 14th minute. Paulo Berger didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cafungo EC. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 16th minute of the game. One of Cafungo EC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Cocos:s goal. Bruninho de Godoi shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. In the 20th minute João Augusto de Barros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paulo Berger saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 22nd minute Paulo José Motta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paulo Berger saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Paulo José Motta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 28 minutes into the game, Cocos's Adrianinho de Moraes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Armando Chaves made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 31st minute, João Augusto de Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cafungo EC's supporters rose to their feet, but João Augusto de Barros was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Paulo Berger breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Armando Chaves was out of position in the 34 minute of play, and Adrianinho de Moraes capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Adrianinho de Moraes really showed his touch with that goal: 2-0. José Amaral kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Adrianinho de Moraes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by João Augusto de Barros in the 46th minute of play forced Cocos's goalkeeper Paulo Berger to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Paulo José Motta in the 48th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paulo Berger saved Cocos from getting behind. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

The wind increased when Paulo José Motta made the kick off in the second half. In the 54th match minute, Cocos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Igor Arruda to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Cocos getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Bruninho de Godoi hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Cocos's zone, Paulo José Motta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulo Berger came out of the goal and Paulo José Motta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 70th minute, Adrianinho de Moraes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Igor Arruda's late challenge caught a Cafungo EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Igor Arruda helped the player get up and apologised. In the 71st minute, Igor Arruda hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Adrianinho de Moraes struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Armando Chaves didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cocos. The supporters of Cafungo EC booed when Cocos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Igor Arruda didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 81st match minute, Cocos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adrianinho de Moraes to maneuver through the defense. Paulo Berger made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paulo José Motta in the 84th minute of play. Paulo José Motta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Cocos's Paulo Berger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo José Motta in the 92nd minute of play. João Augusto de Barros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Paulo Berger tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cocos's Paulo Berger proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 95th minute of the match, managed to save Cocos from getting a goal against them. Cafungo EC were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
