When Faustão Ramalho fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Taraqua's protests and gave Faustão Ramalho a yellow card for diving instead. In the 3rd minute, one of Taraqua:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Taraqua. In the 5th minute there was a penalty for Vargem. Clóvis Loyola stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Vinícius Freire. 1-0. 8 minutes into the game, Josué Pinheiro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vargem's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Taraqua the free kick. 11 minutes into the match, Taraqua's goalkeeper Vinícius Freire had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Toninho Dantas. In the 12th minute, Falcão Soeiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Toninho Dantas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ramón Severo in the 14th minute of play forced Taraqua's goalkeeper Vinícius Freire to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Toninho Dantas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 21st minute of the match, but Vinícius Freire made a huge save. In the 30th match minute, Taraqua was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulo Renato Carvalho to maneuver through the defense. In the 32nd minute of the match, Toninho Dantas got a very nice opportunity to score, but Vinícius Freire was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. If Ramón Severo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 40 minutes, Leopoldo Cordeiro mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Taraqua and the Vargem players grew even worse after the yellow card. During the 41st minute of the match Josué Pinheiro completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Josué Pinheiro a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Josué Pinheiro kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. The supporters of Vargem booed when Taraqua was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Faustão Ramalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paulo Renato Carvalho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Emerson Arósio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
If Geraldo Carneiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 57th match minute, Vargem was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by José Vítor Trancoso to maneuver through the defense. Paulo Renato Carvalho might have been able to make a better finish in the 61st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Emerson Arósio. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Paulo Renato Carvalho ran back to his position shaking his head. 65 minutes into the match, Vargem's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Renato Carvalho came free, but Emerson Arósio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After having played for 66 minutes, Toninho Dantas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vargem's supporters crossed their fingers, but Toninho Dantas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ramón Severo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Vinícius Freire tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 71st minute, Wellington Monteiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Taraqua's Geraldo Carneiro got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Taraqua were awarded a corner in the 82th minute after Vargem's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Hélder Salles took the corner. Hélder Salles made a great header on Taraqua's corner, it was just that Vargem's Emerson Arósio managed to reach the ball for a save. Taraqua's Geraldo Carneiro got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Toninho Dantas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vargem's Toninho Dantas got a good chance for a goal in the 98th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Vargem walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
