The referee ignored FC Maciel's protests and gave Juvenal Tinoco a yellow card for diving instead. Juvenal Tinoco hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. When Chicão Montenegro came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the Caverna dos Dragões fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Chicão Montenegro couldn't finish the play. Anselmo Pimenta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Jorginho Nogueira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Anselmo Pimenta struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Vítor Proença took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 24th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Jarbas Queirós. FC Maciel's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. A collision led to Caverna dos Dragões getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Jorge Chaves hit a great ball. If Gildo Pombal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Anselmo Pimenta in the 34th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jorginho Nogueira saved Caverna dos Dragões from getting behind. Jorginho Nogueira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gildo Pombal in the 35th minute of the match. Adrianinho Simão hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Zé Carlos da Cunha received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Jarbas Queirós tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Zé Carlos da Cunha scored 1-1 in the 59th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jarbas Queirós, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jarbas Queirós stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Chicão Montenegro's shot from short distance in the 84th minute. Caverna dos Dragões's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Jorge Chaves in the 94th minute. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
