Vila Mariana's supporters crossed their fingers, but Osvaldinho Esteves was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 11th minute of the game. One of Cococa:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of E. C. Vila Mariana:s goal. The goalkeeper, Paulinho Matos, was totally fooled by E. C. Vila Mariana's Ronaldinho Alves, who 13 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 16th minute Diguinho Brasil shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joélson Quadros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Cococa's Paulinho Matos got control of the ball when Osvaldinho Esteves tried to sneak it across the goal line. Cococa's Paulinho Matos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gil Rosa in the 72nd minute of play. If Osvaldinho Esteves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Cococa's zone, Luiz Fábio da Mata stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulinho Matos came out of the goal and Luiz Fábio da Mata tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sandro de Sousa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joélson Quadros having to interfere. In the 85th minute, Diguinho Brasil got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Sandro de Sousa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to E. C. Vila Mariana getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Célio Varela hit a great ball. Maurício Tróia, 89 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. With a little luck, E. C. Vila Mariana's Joélson Quadros got control of the ball when Sandro de Sousa tried to sneak it across the goal line. The E. C. Vila Mariana fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Cococa were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
